Poonam Jain, BDS, MS, MPH
After hearing this podcast, the listener should:
more insight into the research and methodologies used in research studies
about energy drinks and their effects on teeth
how energy drinks negatively affect the dentition (specifically enamel
loss) and why
*Dr. Poonam Jain, BDS,
In 2012, THE NEXT DDS interviewed Dr. Poonam Jain about a
study published in General Dentistry magazine
regarding the effects of sports and energy drinks on teeth. Since that time, Dr.
Jain has continued her research with the introduction of new methodologies and
results. In this podcast, Dr. Jain returns to discuss these new findings,
specifically the effects of energy drinks on enamel loss, and to go more in
depth about the specific methods, measurements, and results of the studies.
With energy drink sales climbing in the United States over the past several
years, and college students being near the top of the list as far as those who
consume these beverages, it is important for you, the dental student to hear
what kinds of effects these often highly acidic drinks can have on teeth.
