Oral Cancer Awareness in the U.S.
Oral Cancer Survivor and Dental Student Uyen Nguyen Organizes Awareness 5k Run/Walkathon
Uyen Nguyen, NOVA Southeastern University School of Dentistry '14
Learning Objectives:
After hearing this podcast, the listener should:
- Understand
a little more about oral cancer and oral cancer screening processes
- See
how one person can make a difference and spread awareness within a
community by taking initiative for a cause that is critically important
It is quite likely that everyone listening to this podcast
either directly or indirectly knows someone whose life has been affected by
cancer. Oral cancer has remained one of the most lethal diseases in the United States
for decades. As dentists, oral cancer could be the most serious affliction that
you will ever diagnose, and routine screenings should be conducted with your
future patients regularly to catch this condition early enough for treatment.
Today on THE NEXT DDS Podcast, we have the pleasure of speaking with Uyen
Nguyen, an oral cancer surviving dental student from the NOVA Southeastern
University School
of Dentistry. Uyen has organized and carried out an oral cancer awareness 5k
run/walkathon two years in a row at NOVA, and we are happy to bring her story
to the national stage, and let her share her experiences with you today.
