listening to this interview, dental students should:
- Understand what the Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program (i.e, the "Match") is, and what it could mean to
them and their future dental specialty.
- Know the process of applying and participating in Dental Match
interview is designed to familiarize dental students with the
concept and processes associated with the Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program. As explained by Matthew Ronconi (UCLA '12), the "Match" is a national
program administered by National Matching Services, Inc. to place dental students within residencies to begin training in
their selected area of expertise. The Match is the mechanism used by some
postdoctoral dental education programs to determine the final placement of
applicants into positions. The Match provides an orderly process to help
applicants obtain positions in the first year of training in postdoctoral
programs of their choice, and to help programs obtain applicants of their choice.
Ronconi is a Contributing Editor to the publications of the American Student Dental Association (ASDA), serves on the ASDA National Council on Licensure, and is a 4th-year
dental student at UCLA.
