Digital Radiography and Patient Education

Learning Objectives:

After hearing this podcast, the listener should:
  • Understand the advantages that digital radiography provides today's dentists when it comes to patient education
  • See how digital radiographs can be used to present alternative treatments, communicate more effectively, and pitch treatment options to patients

There can be no doubt that the introduction of digital radiography has been one of the great advances in dentistry in recent years. This technology is especially beneficial for endodontics, since this discipline depends on radiographs of the highest quality for accurate diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of treatment outcomes.  Digital radiographs continue to increase in importance from the perspective of patient safety too, and recent coverage in the mainstream media has prompted the American Dental Association and other leaders in organized dentistry to advocate guidelines for the proper use of dental x-rays.
